This seems to be a commonly recommended format in tech, specifically the 15-5 format:

Spend 15 minutes at the end of each week on a report that can be read in five minutes. Send this out to your manager and a few peers at work. 1

Shaun Wang has summarised a number of approaches, but my favourite is the supposed original from Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard:

  1. Accomplishments for this week (completed activities, notable wins, what’s working)
  2. Priorities for next week
  3. Challenges/Roadblocks
  4. Lessons Learned/Opportunities for improvement
